I wanted a solid advantage even if I had less intellectual capacity and stamina.
Unfortunately, most consultants learn haphazardly.
They don't have a good system.
They learn on the job using a trial-and-error approach.
When they make mistakes, managers don't spend enough time coaching them to prevent mistakes in the future.
As a result, consultants become great at making mistakes but don’t learn from them.
Instead, you need a solid learning system.
Become a scientist of your success.
Conduct countless learning experiments.
And meticulously analyze the results and refine your playbook.
Here's how you can do that:
1. Define your hypothesis: Decide what skills you need to learn and choose strategies you want to implement.
2. Design experiments: Try new techniques and approaches to eliminate the root causes of your mistakes.
3. Reflect on results: How did your experiments go? What worked? What didn't?
4. Develop new hypotheses: Decide what you want to try next based on your findings.
5. Rinse and Repeat: Do it again. And again. And again.
But how do I know what to learn and test? You might ask.
