How to Deal with a Toxic Manager
How to deal with a toxic manager?
Toxicity is the biggest source of stress for consultants.
If you work at McKinsey, BCG, or Bain, I am sure you have experienced some form of toxic situation.
Unfortunately, it happens more often than we want.
You put people under immense pressure, and stress makes people behave in all kinds of weird ways, including toxic behavior.
Why does it create so much stress for you?
We as humans are social beings. We are hard-wired to read cues from our leaders. If they are unhappy with us, our stress goes through the roof.
It’s a survival mechanism developed through evolution.
In prehistoric times, if your leaders were unhappy with you, that meant exile from the tribe and certain death. That is why your brain sends strong alarm signals.
