Poor slide-making holds you back
Slide-making is a fundamental consulting skill. We communicate our ideas through slides, and any gaps will lead to huge productivity loss. But you can turn it to your advantage if you learn well.
Do you know why slide-making is the source of your troubles?
Think of it as a wheel in a car.
If your wheels are out of balance, they create strong vibrations. This can cause problems such as suspension damage, uneven tire wear, reduced fuel efficiency, poor handling, and safety risks. The faster you drive, the more damage you cause.
That is why mechanics in a garage balance your wheels by spinning them on a machine and attaching counterweights.
The same with slide-making.
It's a high-frequency activity. You do it daily and for a long time.
If your slide-making skills are out of balance, you make random mistakes, resulting in rework and unnecessary iterations.
Instead of working on new tasks, you waste time fixing your past mistakes.
Then, you work in reactive mode, don't have time to think, and make more mistakes. That's how you spin the vicious cycle again and again.
You kill your productivity and reputation.
But, if you achieve a higher proficiency in slide-making, you create an advantage for yourself.
Learning to make slides well is difficult. It requires orchestrating multiple skills, including problem-solving, time management, research, structuring, formatting, and writing.
You know, to help consultants, I created a guide on how to create great slides. It's the most popular post on my website.
Last week, I updated that post, making it the third edition. This time, I used the insights I gained from coaching more than 40 MBB consultants in the Hero's Journey Coaching Program.
In the coaching program, consultants complete practical exercises to learn slide-making. This work resulted in more than 200 new data points on how consultants solve problems, create slides, and make mistakes.
If you are an MBB consultant and want to improve your slide-making, please read this post:
The consulting journey is complex and treacherous.
Walking it alone is extremely difficult. It’s helpful to have the support of someone experienced who has gone through this journey and helped many others.
That is why I developed a coaching program for MBB consultants to help them achieve high performance and become successful.
If you are an MBB consultant and sick of struggling with performance and development, I would like to speak with you.
Book a Free 1-1 Consultation to discuss whether I can help you through my coaching program. There is no commitment, and you can ask any burning questions in a risk-free environment.
